HC Deb 03 February 1943 vol 386 cc871-2
12. Mr. McKinlay

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will state the amount spent by his Ministry on converting a building, of which he has been informed, to their requirements?

Sir A. Sinclair

£11,000 has been spent on the conversion of this building and £39,000 on the erection of other essential buildings on the site and on ancillary services.

Mr. McKinlay

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that six months previously the War Office spent £31,000 on the same building and that a sum of £10,000 would have completed the building for hospital purposes, for which it was erected, and can the right hon. Gentleman say that they are prepared to vacate those premises and use this hospital as a hospital?

Sir A. Sinclair

I can only say that I must have accommodation for this Signals Depot. The building is giving good accommodation for that depot now, and we could not move unless equally good accommodation were made available.

Mr. McKinlay

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise this matter on the Adjournment.
