HC Deb 03 February 1943 vol 386 cc885-6
31. Mr. David Adams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Caribbean Products Company, Limited, Jamaica, is awaiting a reply to their application made some two years ago for permission to manufacture toilet soap in the island; and whether, as the establishment of this new business would assist the coconut industry, relieve unemployment and aid in the economic development of the Colony, he will have the application promptly examined and reported upon?

Colonel Stanley

I understand that my hon. Friend is referring not to an application for permission to manufacture toilet soap, but for permission to import the necessary machinery. I have no information regarding this application, but I am making inquiries and will communicate with my hon. Friend.

Mr. Adams

Is the Minister taking steps to deal with the delay in giving a reply to these people in Jamaica?

Colonel Stanley

I am not prepared to accept the view that there has been delay until I have been able to find out the facts in the case.
