HC Deb 15 December 1943 vol 395 cc1520-1
8. Mr. Ivor Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any members of the foreign service have yet been retired on pension under the Foreign Service Act?

Mr. Eden

I have nothing at present to add to the reply which my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member on 28th October.

Mr. Thomas

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this Act, which received the Royal Assent some months ago, was asked for as a war-time emergency Measure, and while I do not ask for action under it, is the position not rather surprising?

Mr. Eden

I do not think it is surprising. One must give careful consideration to cases of this kind, and lately I have myself been otherwise occupied.
