HC Deb 15 December 1943 vol 395 cc1546-7
61. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Information whether he will cause the B.B.C. to make arrangements for relaying suitable Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and United States broadcasts each week?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Information (Mr. Thurtle)

The B.B.C. regularly broadcast programmes from the U.S.A. for listeners in this country and they are examining the possibility of similar relays or recordings of Soviet programmes.

Mr. Smith

Does my hon. Friend agree that there is now more good will between the people of the United States of America, the British and the Russian people, and should not this be cultivated and encouraged more than it has been up to the present time?

Mr. Thurtle

I entirely agree with what my hon. Friend says and we are anxious to do all we can to facilitate these broadcasts.
