§ 15. Mr. Daggarasked the Secretary of State for War whether he has completed 765 his investigations regarding the matter arising out of the Question put to him on 19th October by the hon. Member for the Abertillery Division concerning the prices charged by N.A.A.F.I.; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter?
§ Sir J. GriggI have just received a report from the Middle East, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend regarding the matter shortly.
§ Mr. DaggarIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that this organisation has recently advertised that it has made a profit of no less than £20,000,000? How can such a profit be made except by overcharging the soldiers?
§ Sir J. GriggThe figure is unfamiliar. Prima facie, it sounds excessive if applied to this war only; but the answer is that practically the whole profit goes back to the soldier in the form of rebate.
§ Mr. DaggarDoes the right hon. Gentleman agree that a soldier should pay for his entertainment in the form of an increased price for an article which he needs as a soldier?
§ Sir J. GriggI think that is a matter of argument, and hardly one to be dealt with by question and answer.
