§ 4. Mr. Manderasked the Minister of Labour whether it is proposed to apply the terms of the Allied Powers (War Service) Act to the subjects of other Allied nations now in this country, such as Americans and Russians; and whether in any action to be taken men and women will be equally affected?
§ Mr. BevinI am considering, in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether the Act should be applied to United States citizens in this country. I do not at present contemplate any further 1798 application of the Act, which can be applied only to men.
§ Mr. ManderCan my right hon. Friend say why it is proposed to make this sex discrimination?
§ Mr. BevinBecause the agreement with other countries deals with conscripts for entering the Forces, and there is no conscription of women in those countries.
