§ 29. Sir Robert Rankin
asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, whether his Department would welcome an increased number of volunteers of 17 and 17½ years' of age for service with the Royal Navy; and, if so, whether he will instruct that notification is sent to the secretaries of the Shipping Federation and the National Union of Seamen?
The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." There are now vacancies for youths between 17 and 18 for service during hostilities in various branches of the Royal Navy. I will consider the suggestion in the second part of the Question.
