HC Deb 14 April 1943 vol 388 cc1202-3
34. Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the total sum paid to date by the Nigerian Government to the United Africa Company as a moiety of the receipts from mineral royalties in the Northern Provinces of Nigeria?

Colonel Stanley

I am sorry that it has not been possible in the time available to obtain all the information necessary in order to give a complete reply to this Question. I will send the information required to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

Mr. Turton

When my right hon. and gallant Friend has got the figure will he consider whether he could not now relieve the Colonial Government of this very considerable burden?

Colonel Stanley

That is another and much wider question. My hon. Friend will realise that the Colony now has the advantage of the Colonial Development and Welfare Act.
