48. Mr. De la Bèreasked the Prime Minister the name of the chairman of the Committee which is to assist the Government to investigate the Beveridge Report proposals, in view of the fact that this information has been published on some previous occasions in connection with War Cabinet Committees?
§ The Prime MinisterAs has been stated before in this House, it is contrary to the usual practice to publish details of the composition and Chairmanship of War Cabinet Committees. I regret that I am 1050 not prepared to make an exception in the case of the Committee to which my hon. Friend refers.
Mr. De la BèreIs it the intention of the Committee and the Government to see that the people of this country are gradually emancipated as a result of the Beveridge Report? Can my right hon. Friend give us an assurance on that?
§ The Prime MinisterI have nothing to add at this moment to the various statements, some of them very lengthy, which have been made by representatives of His Majesty's Government on this subject.
