HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 cc769-70
51. Mr. Hall-Caine

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider making recommendations for the creation of an order of efficiency which could be conferred upon industrial workers, male or female, in recognition of meritorious service in the advancement of the war effort in factory or workshop?

The Prime Minister

Proposals of this kind have recently been very carefully examined. It is considered that a more extended use of the existing awards would be preferable.

Mr. Hall-Caine

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in the United States a similar order has had very great effect?

The Prime Minister

I have asked for reports about that.
