HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 c773
57. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Paymaster-General whether there is any official committee investigating the problems of post-war civil aviation; if so, upon what date it was appointed and when it last met?

Sir W. Jowitt

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which was given yesterday to the hon. Member for Shrewsbury (Mr. A. Duckworth). The Inter-Departmental Committee on Civil Aviation was appointed in August, 1941; it last met in January, 1942, and thereafter submitted certain questions for the opinion of His Majesty's Government. These questions are now being considered.

Mr. Simmonds

Does it not really show, as this Committee met last in January, 1942, and as this matter is of vast importance to the Empire after the war, that it is not being-taken as seriously as it should be?

Sir W. Jowitt

No, Sir, it shows no such thing. It shows that the matter is one of extreme complexity and difficulty, and its importance can hardly be overrated.
