HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 cc754-5
15. Dr. Little

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether in choosing sites for aerodromes in Northern Ireland, he will see that they are selected in such positions as to prevent interference with, or the removal of, any church buildings?

Sir A. Sinclair

In choosing sites every endeavour is made to avoid the need for demolishing church buildings, but I cannot of course give a guarantee that it will always be possible to avoid interference with or the removal of church property.

Dr. Little

Has my right hon. Friend been able to adopt any plan whereby the removal of a church building in County Down can be obviated?

Sir A. Sinclair

No final decision has been reached. I cannot give my hon. Friend any undertaking, but I shall certainly strive to prevent the necessity for the removal of this church.

Dr. Little

Is the Minister aware that many of our churches are surrounded by aerodromes and cemeteries and it is. a very serious matter?
