§ 30. Mr. Hannahasked the Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he realises the great inconvenience to lorry-drivers and others from the removal of all road direction signs; and will he permit at least some of these to be restored temporarily while a hostile invasion is not imminent?
§ Mr. Noel-BakerYes, Sir, I do realise that inconvenience is caused by the removal of road direction signs. But a decision to replace the signs must depend upon military considerations; and in any case, there is at present a shortage of the labour and materials required. I will, however, consult my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War, and will write to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
§ Mr. HannahIs anything known as to how much extra petrol is used by lorries as a result of the removal of these signs?
§ Mr. Noel-BakerWe should like to make a change, but we must be subject to the decision of the military authorities.
