asked the Secretary of State for India how many people have been arrested in India since 9th August; how many been imprisoned with and without trial, respectively; how many are still in prison; and on what occasions the Whipping Act has been used?

Mr. Amery

I have not yet received the desired information regarding the number of arrests, etc., which necessarily takes some time to collect from all the Provincial authorities concerned. I have replied separately regarding the use of the penalty of whipping.

Mr. Sorensen

Could we not have a report from time to time of any instances of whipping being imposed as a enalty?
