HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c145
39. Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the compensation paid on the State acquisition of the Rhodesian railway system will be based on net maintainable revenue; or what other basis will be adopted?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

As stated in my reply of 8th July to the hon. Member for Dewsbury (Mr. Riley), the question of the State acquisition of the Rhodesian Railways will be discussed at the railway conference which the three Governments interested had previously agreed should be held to consider certain other railway questions. As the conference is to be preceded by an investigation by experts who, according to present information, cannot begin their task before November or December next, it is unlikely that it will take place before the New Year.
