HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c153
60. Commander Sir Archibald Southby

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether members of food control committees who have personal interest in questions to be decided by the committee are entitled to vote upon such questions, or whether they are barred as interested parties?

Mr. Mabane

A member of a food control committee is not statutorily debarred from voting on any question which comes before that committee.

Sir A. Southby

Does the hon. Gentleman not think it is more desirable that where personal interest comes in it should not be proper for members of food control committees to vote upon questions in which they are personally interested?

Mr. Mabane

The difficulty might be that it would debar many if not most members of certain committees from voting on anything that came before them because the interests are so general.

Sir A. Southby

Then choose a new committee.
