HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c147
69. Mr. Riley

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he intends to present to Parliament during the present Session a comprehensive report dealing with recent economic, political and social developments in our Colonies?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

No, Sir. My Noble Friend does not propose to present such a report this year.

Mr. Riley

How does the right hon. Gentleman expect Members of this House to discharge their obligations unless they have information, and is he aware that no report has been issued since the outbreak of war?

Mr. Macmillan

The compilation of these reports is a fairly big task in my Department. I think the hon. Member will agree that in the circumstances we are better employed trying to take decisions than in writing blue books.
