HC Deb 08 October 1942 vol 383 c1336
17. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Labour whether, for women to be employed on part-time factory work, Government training centres are being utilised for preliminary training where required?

Mr. Bevin

Yes, Sir. I have made arrangements under which the resources of the Government training centres can be made available for the training of part-time workers where this is necessary, and in fact a small number are being so trained. The majority of women volunteers for part-time work, however, are being placed in jobs where training of the kind given by the Ministry is not required.

Mr. Adams

Is the Minister aware that there is considerable accommodation in many of these centres for the training of such women?

Mr. Bevin

Yes, Sir, but I am anxious not to fill up training centres with people to train if I can put them straight into work.
