HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 c1065
75. Colonel Colville

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the telephone service on the Edinburgh exchange is giving cause for dissatisfaction owing to the delays, which amount to as much as 15 minutes at certain times of the day, in getting the exchange to answer calls, and that complaints to supervisor have resulted in no improvement; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure better service?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. Grimston)

The service in Edinburgh has recently deteriorated, owing to heavy increase in traffic coupled with a shortage of operators' positions in the exchange switchroom. An extension of the switchboard will shortly be completed and will result in a material improvement in the service.

Colonel Colville

Is the Department giving earnest attention to defects in this exchange?

Mr. Grimston

indicated assent.
