HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 cc1051-2
5. Mr. Guy

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he can give the date when the recent increase of pay for the Services will be distributed?

Sir J. Grigg

The increase of pay in the Army takes effect from 1st October, 1942. Commanding officers have been instructed to make increased payments to soldiers accordingly on the first pay day after that date, namely, 2nd October. Children's allowances are paid weekly and the increases in these allowances will take effect in the first full week in October. It is not, however, possible to make them available earlier than 19th October when recipients will draw the additional payments for the two preceding weeks and for the week to come.

Mr. Guy

Is the Minister aware that ration allowance in some units has been reduced by 1d. per day, thereby reducing the 3s. 6d. to 2s. 11d. a week?

Sir J. Grigg

That is a question of which I should like to have notice. It is a new one to me.
