HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 c1060
26. Sir Henry Morris-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for War why the "Get-you-Home" service for troops has been discontinued in Wales though retained in Scotland; and whether, in view of distances in rural areas in Wales and the help this voluntary service has been to soldiers on leave, he will review the recent decision of the Western Command?

Sir J. Grigg

I am obliged to my hon. Friend for drawing my attention to this matter, and I am reviewing the position. I cannot, however, hold out hopes that it will be possible in view of the need to save petrol to continue the "Get-you-Home" scheme much longer in any part of the country.

Sir H. Morris-Jones

Why does my right hon. Friend differentiate between Wales and Scotland in this matter, and is he aware that in the rural areas of Wales there are very great transport difficulties?

Sir J. Grigg

I do not think my hon. Friend could have listened to my answer, in which I expressed great gratitude to him for calling my attention to the discrepancy and said that I would review the matter.
