HC Deb 01 October 1942 vol 383 cc928-9
49. Mr. Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether any steps are being taken to popularise for use on farms a new type of cutter-blower for silo-filling from America suitable for small ricks?

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

As part of my Department's campaign to popularise silage production the Ministry has encouraged the production of cutter-blowers for silo filling by British manufacturers, and has supplemented this production by the import of suitable machines from the U.S.A.

Mr. Price

Are there any small ones on the market, or likely to come on the market, which will do for small farms?

Mr. Hudson

Cutter-blowers are not necessary for making grass silage, which is the most important. They are only necessary for crops grown especially for silage, such as vetches.
