HC Deb 01 October 1942 vol 383 c906
8. Mr. Mandar

asked the Minister of Labour the present position of his proposals for controlling conditions in the catering trades; and when it is intended to bring them into effect?

Mr. Bevin

I am in consultation with the interests concerned, but I am not yet in a position to make any further announcement.

Mr. Mander

Can my right hon. Friend say whether there is to be an investigation before the proposals are put into effect, and, if so, how long it will take?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir, not in the sense of an inquiry of the nature my hon. Friend probably has in mind. I intend to introduce a Bill which will set up the main position of a permanent character.

Mr. Leslie

Are not these conditions sufficiently well known by the trade without the need for any further inquiry?
