§ 52. Mr. Higgsasked the Minister of Agriculture the penalty for feeding raw swill to pigs; and how many people have been prosecuted for the offence this year?
Mr. HudsonAny person found guilty of feeding raw swill to pigs is liable to a fine not exceeding £50, or, if the offence is committed in respect of more than 10 animals, to a fine not exceeding £5 for each animal. It is the duty of local authorities to undertake prosecutions for offences of this nature, and, accordingly, I am not in possession of a complete list of such proceedings. I have, however, been informed of 32 prosecutions this year involving fines totalling about £126, exclusive of costs.
§ Mr. HiggsDoes the Minister consider that the fines imposed have been adequate to enforce this Order?
§ Mr. SilvermanCan the right hon. Gentleman say how much it costs the State to answer this Question in this way?
§ Mr. Evelyn WalkdenIs not the most likely punishment the sentence of death for the pigs?
