HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c503
63. Mr. Channon

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware of the growth of robbery with violence, etc., in the London streets, particularly in the West and South-western districts; and whether he will take further steps to ensure the safety of the streets?

Mr. H. Morrison

During the 10 months to 31st October last the number of offences of robbery and assault with intent to rob reported in the Metropolitan Police District was 181, of which 124 occurred in the streets. Two-thirds of the total number of cases occurred in the central districts. I have been in consultation with the Commissioner of Police and can find no evidence to suggest that the situation in any particular district need give rise to apprehension. The police are taking all possible steps to deal with offenders.
