HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 c346
51. Mr. Stokes

asked the Minister of Production on what date Mr. Morris was appointed Director of Raw Materials; what work he was engaged in immediately prior to the outbreak of war; and his qualifications for the post he now holds?

Mr. Garro Jones

There is no post of Director of Raw Materials. Mr. C. R. Morris was appointed to the Raw Materials Division of the Ministry of Supply in August, 1939, and is now an Undersecretary in the Raw Materials Division of the Ministry of Production. Immediately prior to the outbreak of war, Mr. Morris was a Fellow and Tutor of Balliol College, Oxford. The practical knowledge he has gained during the past three years in the field of raw materials, and his ability for administration, fully qualify him for the post he holds.

Mr. Stokes

Am I to deduce from that reply that the most suitable person to be the right-hand man of the President of the Board of Education would be a raw material manager or a producer?
