HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 cc333-4
26. Sir Robert Rankin

asked the Postmaster-General, whether, in view of the increase during the war of parcel postage and the burden especially in country districts placed upon postmen and post-women, he will consider reducing the maximum weight of single parcels to be accepted, which at present stands at 15 lbs.?

The Postmaster-General (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

I do not consider it desirable to reduce the maximum weight limit of 15 lb. for an inland parcel. Such a reduction would inconvenience the public, especially in country districts, and would not necessarily lessen the total load to be carried by the postman or postwoman. Limits are placed on the loads carried on foot and cycle posts.
