HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 cc322-3
9. Mr. Boothby

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can now make a statement regarding the future administration of Madagascar?

Mr. Eden

I hope that an agreement will shortly be concluded with the French National Committee regarding the future administration of Madagascar. General Legentilhomme has been chosen by the Committee as High Commissioner. He will proceed to Madagascar in the near future to take up his duties.

Mr. Boothby

Can we have an assurance that all representatives of the Vichy Government and other quislings will be excluded from Madagascar?

Mr. Eden

They have already been excluded.

Mr. Moelwyn Hughes

Will they be readmitted?

Mr. Eden

Not by me.
