Mr. Clynesasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning whether, in accordance with the suggestion made in the Report of the Committee on Cement Production presented to Parliament in May, 1941, he has been able to bring under review the position of cement production in this country; whether he is satisfied as to the volume and efficiency of manufacture; whether any steps have been taken to 336 secure economies; and whether there has been any shortage?
§ Mr. HicksYes, Sir. The operations of the industry have been kept under close and continuous supervision, and the position in regard to supply and demand is under constant review. The output of cement has been adequate to meet all demands. While, from inquiries made, I am satisfied as to the efficiency of production, the securing of further economies—whether of labour, fuel or materials—is continuously under review.
