§ The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. Grimston)There is no regulation fixing the wages of clerks employed by sub-postmasters. This is a matter for arrangement between the sub-postmaster and his employees, but the Department's rules prescribe that their conditions of service should not be less favourable than those of shop assistants of the same standing in the service of good employers in the same district; and so long as this rule is complied with, the Post Office does not intervene. If my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind, I shall be happy to look into it.
§ Mr. Craven-EllisWould my hon. Friend consider that £2 a week is sufficient for the exceptional duties that this woman performs?
