HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 c177
50. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government propose to publish the terms-of the Armistice concluded in Madagascar; and whether he can make any statement in regard to the disposal of prisoners?

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The Armistice terms provided for the surrender of the Vichy forces in Madagascar and for the handing over of their arms and equipment. It is not proposed to publish details. Members of the Vichy forces will be given every encouragement to rally to Fighting France. Meanwhile they are to be treated as prisoners of war.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what is the present position of the Vichy High Commissioner in Madagascar?

Mr. Attlee

Not without notice.
