HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 c190
51. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the decrease of privileges and facilities which have been demanded from Members of Parliament and of the increase in rights and immunities of Departmental heads of the Civil Service, the Government will take steps to adjust these matters?

Mr. Attlee

Perhaps my hon. Friend would be good enough to let me know exactly what he has in mind in putting his Question.

Mr. De la Bère

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the large number of inter-Departmental rules and regulations which are introduced direct and which the general public believe are brought before, and agreed to by, Parliament, and will he look into this question of the inter-Departmental rules and regulations which are not approved by Parliament, of which very large numbers are offensive to all members of the general public?

Mr. Attlee

That seems to me to be a different Question. Perhaps my hon. Friend will put it down.

Mr. De la Bère

My Question was aimed directly at inter-Departmental rules.

Mr. Attlee

My hon. Friend did not come very near the target.

Mr. De la Bère

But the target is still there.
