Mr. De la Bèreasked the Secretary for Petroleum whether, in view of the fact that there is attaching to waste motor oil from crank-case drainings, etc., a certain fuel value and the possibility of its utilisation in several directions, he will take steps to form a comprehensive organisation to deal with this waste product throughout the country?
§ The Secretary for Petroleum (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)Yes, Sir. Much is already being done in re-refining used lubricating oil, and the Petroleum Board are organising a scheme for the more complete collection of waste oil by areas. It would not, however, be an economic use of transport, petrol and man-power to convey small quantities of waste oil considerable distances. In such cases it should be sold locally as a fuel.
Mr. De la BèreIs my hon. Friend aware that, in spite of the efforts of his Department—and I fully acknowledge those—there is still a great deal of waste, and that a further comprehensive scheme is required to ensure that the waste going on shall not continue? It should be watertight—or oiltight.
