HC Deb 20 May 1942 vol 380 c221
28. Mr. Kirby

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that persons endeavouring to purchase articles of furniture to replace losses due to enemy action, are sometimes called upon by the retailers of such articles to purchase additional articles or suites as a condition of sale; and will he issue an Order to prevent the exploitation of such circumstances?

Captain Waterhouse

Conditions of sale such as those described in the Question are already prohibited by Section 9 of the Goods and Services (Price Control) Act, 1941. Persons upon whom a trader attempts to impose any such conditions which are contrary to the normal practice of the business should report the circumstances to the local price regulation committee for the region concerned.
