§ Sir J. GriggThe speed limits on almost all types of Army vehicles have very recently been reduced.
§ Mr. HughesIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that every day War Department vehicles are to be seen carrying on their backs notices that the maximum speed is 50 or 60 miles an hour, but that those speeds are too often regarded by their drivers as the normal cruising speed, and that the wear and tear on tyres at 60 miles per hour is four times as great as at 30 miles an hour?
§ Sir J. GriggI do not think that any of the speed limits are now as high as 60 miles an hour. There have been discussions in this House as to the methods adopted in enforcing these speed limits, and as far as my information goes the traffic discipline in the Army is now very much better than it has ever been.
