HC Deb 19 May 1942 vol 380 c23
61. Sir Leonard Lyle

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that before a recent inspection of a unit in Scotland by a general, a truck was sent on a journey of 117 miles in order to deliver a small quantity of blanco for the men's webbing equipment; and whether he proposes to take any steps to prevent the waste of petrol for such purposes?

Sir J. Grigg

The journey referred to, which was of 26 not 117 miles, was ordered by a corporal without authority. Disciplinary action is being taken.
