HC Deb 19 May 1942 vol 380 c5
7. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Secretary for Mines, whether he is aware of the complaints in the Normanton district that the coal loading charge for delivering six hundredweights of coal to householders is the same as that previously charged for delivering a ton of coal; and is this extra charge in accordance with the Maximum Retail Coal Prices Scheme?

Mr. Grenfell

One or two complaints, in general terms, have been received, and are under investigation.

Mr. Smith

Will the Minister believe me when I say that the facts are correct, and that the complaints which have come to me from the locality are more than one or two? Does it not suggest that a more systematic delivery of household coal would obviate these increased prices?

Mr. Grenfell

The matter is under investigation. I would expect complaints to come to my hon. Friend, but the few complaints which have come to my Department are receiving full attention.
