HC Deb 26 March 1942 vol 378 c2145
49. Mr. R. Morgs an

asked the Minister of Agriculture, whether, as the compulsory use of wheatmeal flour which is shortly to be enforced will lead to a reduction in animal feeding-stuffs, he is taking steps to make good this deficiency; and whether he can make a statement on this subject?

Mr. Hudson

Yes, Sir. During the summer rationing period certain reserve stocks of maize will be drawn upon. As regards next winter I hope that increased production of oats and other fodder crops, including silage, will offset the loss of wheatfeed. I am impressing upon farmers, including milk producers, the urgent need to become as nearly self-supporting as possible and to plan their spring cropping accordingly.
