HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc1983-4
33. Mr. Ivor Thomas

asked the Minister of Information whether he proposes to maintain the Political Warfare Executive in being, or to substitute other arrangements for the control of propaganda to enemy and enemy-occupied countries?

Mr. Bracken

No, Sir. Political Warfare is no longer conducted by an executive committee. A Director-General has been appointed.

Captain Plugge

Does it come within the purview of the Political Warfare Executive to construct and operate broadcasting stations in the Mediterranean, or should that work come under the B.B.C.?

Mr. Bracken

I really could not answer that question without notice.

Mr. Thomas

What are the arrangements now for conducting propaganda in the enemy-occupied countries?

Mr. Bracken

I have only just become responsible for the administration of this Department, and it is in process of reorganisation. Perhaps the hon. Member will put down a Question.

Mr. Thomas

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake to publish the names of those responsible for conducting propaganda?

Mr. Bracken

I will not undertake to publish the names, but I will undertake to consider publication of the names.

Mr. Davidson

What is to happen while we are waiting for the reorganisation of this body?

Mr. Bracken

The splendid work done in the past will go on in full swing.
