HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc1966-7
4. Mr. Ivor Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make on the recent Governmental changes in Persia; and their effect on the Alliance with this country?

Mr. Law

It is not the practice of His Majesty's Government to comment on governmental changes in Allied countries, since these changes are a matter for the country concerned. At the same time, I have every reason to believe that the new Persian Government, like its predecessor, will collaborate fully with His Majesty's Government and the Soviet Government in carrying out the provisions of the Treaty of Alliance.

Mr. Thomas

Can the Minister assure me that the fullest contact has been maintained with the Soviet Union?

Mr. Law

Certainly, Sir.
