HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 c1989
42. Mr. Mathers

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies how many times the British Guiana Franchise Commission has met; what progress it has made with its task; and whether, in view of public statements made by the new Governor, it is intended to introduce a more advanced Constitution into the Colony than the one previously outlined?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

As regards the first two parts of the Question, I can add nothing to the reply given to my hon. Friend on 17th December. As regards the third part, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Shipley (Mr. Creech Jones) on 18th March.

Mr. Mathers

Is it not desirable that the Colonial Office should get in touch with the Governor of this Colony, in order to set this Commission on right lines and get a satisfactory report?

Mr. Macmillan

As I have stated, we have a very full account of the changes proposed.
