HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc1986-7
41. Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Governor of the Bahamas has recently made proposals for a minimum wage of 6s. a day for native labourers and that the Legislative Council has expressed its disapproval of these proposals; and what action he proposes to take?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

No, Sir. If my hon. Friend will let me have the information in his possession, the Governor will be asked for a report.

Mr. Dugdale

Has no report, in fact, been received as to these proposals?

Mr. Macmillan

No, Sir; I am unable to trace any report at all on this matter. I would be very grateful to the hon. Member for any information.
