§ 23. Major Lyonsasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in the light of experience gained to date, and for the better protection of the public, he will introduce an alteration of the machinery of the Goods and Services (Price Control) Act, 1941, so that the present arrangements are succeeded by a system which fixes prices and limits profits upon all goods and commodities at each stage from maker to the public?
§ 27. Mr. Liddallasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give immediate consideration to the issue of orders under the Act fixing maximum prices and profits on sales of all goods and commodities at each stage from manufacturer to public as a natural corollary to the recent Restriction of Resale Order forbidding sales except by manufacturer to wholesaler and by the latter to retailer; and whether he will also control the price of second-hand goods?
§ The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Dalton)I have the existing arrangements for price control at present under review.
§ Major LyonsHas not this review lasted a long time? Has not the right hon. Gentleman seen the representations made by the North Midland Regional Price Committee showing the procrastination which my right hon. Friend and his predecessor have allowed and which has helped to make this profiteering ramp?
§ Mr. DaltonI have not been in my present office for a very long time, and I have not had the matter for very long under review.
