24. Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Secretary of State for India what representations have been made by the Calicut Labour Council concerning K. R. P. Gopalans when this person was arrested and on what charge, and whether he is now undergoing sentence?

Mr. Amery

I have no knowledge of any such representations or of the person referred to, but if the honourable Member will let me have further particulars, I will make inquiries.

Mr. Davies

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to win the support of these people in India rather than prosecute them?

Mr. Amery

I have no knowledge of the particular case to which the hon. Member refers.
