HC Deb 18 March 1942 vol 378 c1499
30. Mr. Kirkwood

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has considered the petition from the islanders of Bernera asking for Norman Macdonald to be exempted from service on the grounds that be has six brothers serving, and that his calling-up means that his mother's croft, which he cultivates, will go out of cultivation as he is the last son left; and what answer he proposes to give to the petition?

Mr. George Hall

The date of this man's calling-up for service has been deferred for two months from 6th March to permit a full investigation of the application for his permanent release. The decision will be communicated at the earliest practicable moment.
