HC Deb 18 March 1942 vol 378 c1491
19. Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Minister of Information whether he is aware that a large number of people are unable to hear announcements made over the wireless after the 6 o'clock news as they are not yet back from work; and whether, in view of the importance of such announcements being heard by as many people as possible, he will arrange for them to be made instead after the 9 o'clock news?

Mr. Bracken

I sympathise with the hon. Member's suggestion, but it must be remembered that the 9 p.m. news bulletin is long and is usually followed by a talk. To include announcements at the same time would involve a lengthy sequence of the spoken word, which is unlikely to be effective in securing attention.
