HC Deb 12 March 1942 vol 378 c1189
35. Mr. Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Education how many local education authorities have no boards of managers for their own provided schools, other than the education committee; and does the Board consider this arrangement satisfactory?

Mr. Butler

This is not a matter about which statistics are available, but if my hon. Friend will tell me of any case he has in mind I will consider it.

Mr. Harvey

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in some local authorities there is no member of the education committee who visits the schools regularly and there are no means of giving help to the teachers, such as would be rendered where there are effective school managers?

Mr. Butler

I am aware of that, but I would draw the hon. Member's attention to Section 30 of the Education Act, 1921.
