HC Deb 12 March 1942 vol 378 cc1190-1
41. Sir T. Moore

asked the Minister of Pensions how many men have been discharged from the Army, Navy and Air Force through ill-health not considered due to their war service since 3rd September, 1939?

The Minister of Pensions (Sir Walter Womersley)

I regret that it would not be in the national interest to give this figure.

Sir T. Moore

Have these men who have been discharged an adequate opportunity of appealing to an independent medical tribunal if they desire?

Sir W. Womersley

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Garro Jones

Why is it that, when men are discharged owing to wounds received in action, their discharge papers are marked "Ceasing to fulfil Army physical requirements"? Is it feared that if their certificates are properly marked, it will encourage them to apply for pensions?

Sir W. Womersley

That is not a question for me at all.

Mr. Garro Jones

Who has authority to say what goes down on the discharge papers?

Sir W. Womersley

The discharging authority.

Mr. Garro Jones

Will they be properly instructed?
