HC Deb 12 March 1942 vol 378 c1188
34. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Education how many local education authorities have not established care committees for the schools under their charge; and what steps have been taken by the Board to induce them to do this, more especially in urban areas?

The President of the Board of Education (Mr. Butler)

The organising of the follow-up work connected with the School Medical Service has always been left to the discretion of local education authorities. I have not statistics available to show which authorities have appointed care committees. If my hon. Friend will bring to my notice any case where the arrangements are not working satisfactorily, I will look into it.

Mr. Harvey

Does the right hon. Gentleman not agree that neglect to use all the voluntary help that is available for care committees results, in such cases, in loss to the lives of the children and to the teachers?

Mr. Butler

If the hon. Member brings any case to my attention, I will look into it.
