HC Deb 11 March 1942 vol 378 cc1060-1
51. Sir T. Moore

asked the Prime Minister whether he will instruct Ministers to terminate the present practice of replying to Questions by reference to some previous answers, which frequently debars a supplementary question of possibly national importance being asked?

The Lord Privy Seal (Sir Stafford Cripps)

No, Sir My right hon. Friend is not prepared to adopt my hon. and gallant Friend's suggestion.

Sir T. Moore

Will my right hon. and learned Friend bear in mind that it is not possible for Members of Parliament to remember every previous answer to every previous Question, and would it not be more simple for Ministers to answer the Questions on the Paper?

Sir S. Cripps

I think it would be a waste both of time and paper to do that.
